Amanda Renwick tells us how Brecon was the place where a splintered family came together in extraordinary circumstances. Amanda recounts an intriguing story about her family background. Her mother was born in Cardiff, in 1937. After moving to London to pursue her career as an actress she gave birth to a baby girl. Due to her personal circumstances, baby Amanda was put up for adoption and was brought up in Essex.

Amanda later married and lived in Kent but in 1996 she found herself feeling the urge to return to Wales. She had got to know Brecon while doing some work for the University of Newport at the Coleg Powys campus.

Both she and her late husband loved Brecon and decided to make the town their new home. It was the start of fascinating story, which saw the hands of fate bring together different strands of her long-lost family. ‘Brecon is my home and the place I love but also the place where I found my family,’ she says.
